*एक हस्तक्षेपकारी बुद्धिजीवी,चिंतक एवं विचारक वीरेंद्र यादव का असामयिक निधन*
दुःखद समाचार है कि प्रख्यात हिंदी साहित्यिक आलोचक एवं विचारक वीरेन्द्र यादव का आज लखनऊ में निधन हो गया। हृदय गति रुकने से 76 वर्ष की आयु में उन्होंने आज सुबह अंतिम सांस ली।
5 मार्च 1950 को जौनपुर में जन्मे वीरेंद्र यादव ने लखनऊ में प्रारंभिक शिक्षा के बाद लखनऊ विश्वविद्यालय से राजनीति शास्त्र में एम ए किया। छात्र जीवन में ही वे ऑल इंडिया स्टूडेंट्स फेडरेशन के साथ साथ पत्रकारिता से भी जुड़ गए थे।
वीरेन्द्र यादव हिंदी साहित्य के महत्वपूर्ण आलोचक, चिंतक और बुद्धिजीवी थे। उनका जीवन साहित्य-समालोचना से सामाजिक-राजनीतिक विमर्श तक विस्तृत रहा, और वे प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ से अंत समय तक जुड़े रहे एवं उसके राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष मंडल के सदस्य रहे। नवें दशक की शुरुआत में उन्होंने राकेश‘ के साथ मिल कर 'प्रयोजन’ पत्रिका का संपादन किया।
उनकी आलोचनात्मक व साहित्य-सामाजिक रचनाओं में प्रमुख हैं:
विवाद नहीं हस्तक्षेप,
उपन्यास और वर्चस्व की सत्ता,
हिंदी उपन्यास के सत्ता, उपन्यास और देस एवं
विमर्श और व्यक्तित्व।
मार्क्सवादी-प्रगतिशील अवदान:
यादव की आलोचना मार्क्सवादी और प्रगतिशील संदर्भ में रही, जिसमें साहित्य समाज की सत्ता और अंतर्विरोधों को उजागर करने का माध्यम माना गया।
उनकी रचनाएँ केवल तकनीकी आलोचना तक सीमित न रहकर समाजिक, सांस्कृतिक व राजनीतिक विमर्श को भी अपना विषय बनाती थीं।
उन्होंने सिद्धांतों, धाराओं और आलोचनात्मक परंपराओं में सवाल उठाने और हस्तक्षेप करने की महत्ता पर बल दिया और समकालीन बहसों में सक्रिय भागीदारी की।
प्रेमचन्द पर बहसों से लेकर 1857 की ऐतिहासिक विमर्शों के अतिरिक्त उनके लेखन में समकालीन मुद्दों के अतिरिक्त सांगठनिक विचलन पर भी वे निर्भीक टिप्पणी करने से नहीं चूकते थे।
वीरेन्द्र यादव की रचनाएँ हिंदी साहित्य में आलोचनात्मक विमर्श को नई दिशा देने वाली मानी जाती हैं। आलोचना में उन्होंने पाठ, समाज, राजनीति और संस्कृति के बीच के गहन अंतर्संबंधों को प्रकट किया। आज उनके निधन से साहित्य-दुनिया ने एक महत्वपूर्ण चिंतक और मार्गदर्शक तथा मैने पांच दशकों तक साथ रहे एक गंभीर सहयात्री और दोस्त खो दिया है। राकेश वेदा

*The Untimely Demise of Virendra Yadav*
It is deeply saddening to report that the eminent Hindi literary critic, thinker, and public intellectual Virendra Yadav passed away today in Lucknow. He breathed his last this morning at the age of 76 due to cardiac arrest.
Born on 5 March 1950 in Jaunpur, Virendra Yadav received his early education in Lucknow and later earned an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Lucknow. From his student days itself, he became actively associated with the All India Students’ Federation, while simultaneously developing a strong engagement with journalism.
Virendra Yadav was among the most significant critics, thinkers, and intellectuals of Hindi literature. His life and work extended from literary criticism to broader social and political discourse. He remained associated with the Progressive Writers’ Association until the very end and was a member of its National Presidium. In the early years of the 1990s, he co-edited the literary journal *Prayojan* along with Rakesh.
His major critical and socio-literary works include:
Intervention instead of controversy,
The Novel and the Power of Hegemony,
Power in the Hindi Novel,
The Novel and the Nation, and
Discourse and Personality.
Yadav’s criticism was firmly rooted in a Marxist and progressive framework, wherein literature was viewed as a medium for exposing social power structures and inherent contradictions. His writings were not confined to technical or formal criticism; they consistently engaged with social, cultural, and political debates.
He emphasized the importance of questioning established theories, schools of thought, and critical traditions, and remained an active participant in contemporary intellectual debates. From discussions on Premchand to historical discourses on 1857, and from contemporary socio-political issues to organizational deviations, his writing was marked by fearless and uncompromising commentary.
Virendra Yadav’s works are regarded as having given a new direction to critical discourse in Hindi literature. Through his criticism, he revealed the deep interconnections between text, society, politics, and culture. With his passing today, the literary world has lost an important thinker and guide—and I have lost a serious fellow traveller and friend of nearly five decades.
